Basketball Flyers topple leaders but come up short against Phoenix

BRISTOL Flyers toppled leaders London Lions with a 68-54 victory, as a gutsy defensive performance handed the Capital side their first SLB loss of the season.

Zach Anderson's 22 points led the way for Flyers as defence ruled the day, picking up three personal blocks. Joe Anderson was the only other Flyer to reach double-figures, while dishing out seven assists.
Both sides came into the game off the back of European losses on Wednesday, looking to bounce back in league play in a big weekend of SLB action.
This game also saw the return of Deane Williams to SGS, facing Flyers at their home for the first time since playing for Flyers and SGS College at the dawn of his professional career.
The game started physically as Flyers’ first three points all came from the line. Lions’ returning Ryan Mikesell contributed early on to help London extend their lead to 8-3.
