Tens of thousands of residents are 'economically inactive'

Tens of thousands of working-age people in Blackpool were classed as 'economically inactive' last year.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show 24,083 (29.2%) of the 87,791 working-age people in Blackpool were economically inactive in the year to June.

This was higher than the average across the North West where 22.7% of those aged 16 to 64 were economically inactive, and above the UK rate which stood at 21.3%.

Economically inactive people are those not in work nor looking for work.
