Many golfers will hit good, solid three-wood shots from the tee but, as soon as the ball is on the ground, they will top it, strike the ground behind it or hit big slices.

The reason most golfers hit the ball well from the tee is that it is off the ground and they get away with the low point of the swing being behind the ball.
