Darren and David share the honours in close club match at Beach Road

With mostly wet and windy conditions over the past week fewer anglers have been venturing out but for those who've braved it, they have been rewarded with some great numbers of fish! (writes BEN CALLIGHAN)

Whiting has been showing in its masses, alongside bass, flounders, and rockling which have also been common catches. It was a wise move to move Fleetwood and District Angling Club’s latest club match to Beach Road.

There was still a bit of an edge on the sea but sheltered from worst of the wind. Thirteen anglers fished, and all caught fish. Apart from one solitary rockling all fish were whiting. There was some good catches with Mark Broadhurst scooping 19 fish and David Bayliss caught 15. Simon Dawber had 11 and quite a few anglers caught double figures.

The match was not about quantity, it was about quality - the best two fish, and as expected it was very close.
