Mayor hopes fairer council funding will be good for region

WEST Midlands Mayor Richard Parker has hailed the Govern- ment's initiative for a more equitable council funding strategy as a pivotal moment for the area.

Local Government Minister Jim McMahon slammed the current funding system as flawed and biased while announcing sweeping changes to how local councils will be financed going forward.
In response, Mr Parker expressed hopes that this move would mark a significant shift for the West Midlands, facilitating the regeneration of vital community services.
The Government is set to implement new funding formulas aimed at directing resources towards areas with the greatest necessity, considering both demand and specific local requirements.
