Vaping study will look at long-term impacts

A new study involving the University of Birmingham will look at the effects of vaping

SCIENTISTS are set to investigate the long-term effects of vaping on ex-smokers.

The research aims to shed light on the safety of vaping after giving up smoking and determine the optimal duration for using vapes as a cessation aid.

Around 200 individuals will participate in this study.

Participants will be sourced from the NHS staff smoking cessation clinic at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, as well as community stop smoking services.

Half of the participants will receive nicotine replacement therapy, such as patches or gum, while the other half will be provided with vapes.

Over the course of a year, samples will be collected to evaluate lung health, which will then be compared to samples from 40 individuals who have never smoked or vaped.
