THEY HAVE A COMBINED AGE OF 306 AND SOLVE MURDERS. MARION MCMULLEN LOOKS AT THE STARS OF THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB

The production also stars Line of Duty’s Daniel Mays and Blink Twice actor Naomi Ackie as police officers, and David Tennant joins the mix as Ian Ventham, co-owner of Coopers Chase, whose redevelopment plans could force residents out.

To bring Coopers Chase to life, production designer James Merifield suggested Englefield House in Berkshire. The grade II listed house was built in 1558 and has substantial alterations that date from the 1820s.

Its scale and architecture worked well as the former priory of the book. Within the house, many rooms and corridors were dressed to provide the residents with their elegant communal spaces, but there were also some substantial set builds including the Jigsaw Room where the gang congregates to solve crimes. The individual apartments of each of the main characters were dressed to reflect the idiosyncrasies of their personal style.

Gandhi star Sir Ben specifically requested that his character of respected psychiatrist of Egyptian descent, Ibrahim, should have a photograph of his parents and framed Islamic prints in his home to reflect his background.

Inquiry into the bombings is the only route to justice

The government has denied a public inquiry into the facts of the Birmingham Pub Bombings on November 21, 1974. The move is devastating for the families still seeking justice 51 years after the atrocity and tells us something about our leaders, writes historian LORNA SMYTH
