CHARITY CHAMPIONS
-
BIRMINGHAM Women's and Children's Hospital has thousands of supporters and fundraisers who repeatedly go out of their way to make a real difference to the women, babies, children and young people in Birmingham and beyond.
Each week we will be telling the story of one of the hospital's dedicated Charity Champions to highlight the difference that they are making.
Today we introduce you to Sammy Balmforth, of Biddulph, a brave nine-year-old boy tackling a rare type of cancer, who has raised over £1,590 for Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity after kicking off a charity rugby match with his family, as thanks for his ongoing care.
Sammy known by his rugby pals as 'Slammin' Sam B' after his sporting hero - has been fighting acute lymphoblastic leukaemia since January.
Sammy was undergoing a routine blood test at his local hospital for an existing condition when his doctors spotted markers for leukaemia.
