Police on high alert as 5 protest groups plan demos at Villa match

FEARS of clashes between pro-Palestine and pro-Israel protesters have triggered a ‘ring of steel’ plan for Villa Park for tomorrow night’s match.
Police officers near Villa Park on a match day
Police have warned they intend to discourage anyone “without an essential reason to be in the area” to be near Villa Park.
Itis “likely” that they will implement Section 60 powers, allowing officers to ‘stop and search’ and require people to remove face coverings. But the force said it had “no plans” to implement automatic face recognition technology.
It will additionally ensure independent observers are in its control room to monitor police activity and they will liaise regularly with community representatives to provide reassurance and advice before and after the match.
The plans were revealed in a briefing document from West Midlands Police.
