Playing at Wembley will be emotional experience says goal ace Stansfield

WEMBLEY is a special place for many young Englishmen and Jay Stansfield is no different.

The posterboy for new-look Blues will see his face plastered around the nation’s iconic stadium when the Second City descends on the capital for the Vertu Trophy final against Peterborough tomorrow.

It will be a ‘pinch me’ moment for the 22-year-old, who dreamt of emulating his dad, the late Adam Stansfield, by appearing at Wembley.

“It’s going to be an unbelievable feeling and I can’t wait for that day to come,’ says Stansfield. “I've been to watch England a couple of times, I watched my dad at Wembley a couple of times, I've got a video on my phone of when I went to watch Exeter play Coventry (2018 League Two play-off final).

“To first put the Blues shirt on at Wembley, but as a boy who dreamed of playing at Wembley, it will be a special day.”

Family is at the heart of Stansfield’s story. His brother, Taylor, will be getting the ‘Stansfield 28’ shirt ready as part of Blues’ kit department, but the rest of the Stansfield clan will be in the stands.

“I think we've got a whole bus-full coming up! Hopefully I can get enough tickets for everyone!”

It won't be the first time the Stansfields have made the four-hour jaunt from Devon to Wembley. Dad Adam, who tragically passed away in 2010, aged 31, played at Wembley twice in 2007 and 2008 for Exeter and Jay was one of his cheerleaders.
