Plans for new Lidl store are shelved by planners

COUNCILLORS VOTE AGAINST SUPERMARKET DESPITE POSITIVE REPORT
PROPOSALS to partially demolish a Birmingham shopping centre to make way for a new Lidl store have been refused.
The discount supermarket chain wanted to bulldoze the part of Northfield Shopping Centre which is currently empty after Wilko closed its doors following the retailer's collapse.
The proposals also included a new pedestrian walkway and “associated public realm improvements” between the remaining part of the shopping centre and the store to connect Victoria Common and Bristol Road South.
