Jose's display lights up 'Blues Fest'

FOOTBALL often gets a bad rap and sometimes it is deserved, however we don't often shout about the great work our clubs do for their local community.

Jose's display lights up 'Blues Fest'

Last Sunday Blues held their "Blues Fest" in the sunshine that kicked off with a brilliant young girls' tournament on the pitch that highlighted some truly amazing talent plus there was lots of fun things to do out in the Fanzone as fans enjoyed all the activities in the sunshine.

The highlight of the day was a legends match against West Bromwich Albion. A lot of former professionals gave up their Sunday to roll back the years and delight the fans in the stadium. They all did it free of charge dispelling the myth that pro footballers want paying for everything. They brought their families and enjoyed the day out.

Blues had Craig Gardner, Darren Carter, Curtis Davies, Lee Carsley, Roger Johnson, Kevin Phillips, Jose Dominguez, George Friend, Jonathan Grounds, Dele Adebola to name a few while West Brom fielded James Morrison, Chris Brunt, Nigel Quashie, Paul Robinson, Rob Earnshaw, James Chambers, Peter Odemwingie, Andy Hunt and Gareth Barry

Sadly, Troy Deeney had to pull out of the squad on the day due to a personal family issue he had to deal with as did Olivier Tebily who withdrew just a few days before the event due to personal issues back in France.

But one of the many highlights for Blues fans was undoubtedly the diminutive Jose Dominguez who flew in from Portugal especially for the game. He thrilled the crowd when he came on to the pitch in the second half, showing some of the mercurial dribbling skills he did as a player in the 90s. While Craig Gardner kept up his record of scoring in charity matches.

The beneficiary was the Birmingham City Foundation who are doing amazing work out in the community.
