DRAWINGS ARE 'CONVERSATION STARTER' TO CONSIDER ROAD'S FUTURE

Ideas to get Station Street back on track

BRUMMIES have been given a sneak preview of how Station Street could look if investors came on board.

The rundown street, opposite New Street Station in the city centre, is blighted by closures, with both the historic Electric Cinema and Grade II-listed The Crown pub currently sitting empty.

Digbeth-based Intervention Architecture was commissioned by the National Trust to show what the road could look like as a tree-lined road with community areas and outdoor space as well as a cafe and gallery.

The images are part of a larger piece of work undertaken in the hope it would 'start conversations with stakeholders' regarding the protection and regeneration of the road.

National Trust senior project manager Tom Grosvenor said the work - yet to be revealed to the public - shows the importance of the street to Birmingham.

"One of the National Trust's key aims in its work in and around towns and cities is to address unequal access to nature, beauty and history," said Mr Grosvenor.
