Homlessness warning as rent rises grow faster than wages

PRICE hikes on private rent in Birmingham will push more people into homelessness, and pull more children into temporary housing and poverty, a charity has warned.

New figures from the Office for National Statistics show private rents in Birmingham increased by £56 a month to £1,068 in the 12 months to August this year.
And though rent price inflation slowed, it was still growing faster than wages.
Private rents in Birmingham grew three times faster in the last three years than in the previous three.
