Blues' home rule complete as RECORD hits right note
Birmingham Mail
|April 28, 2025
LEAGUE One champions Birmingham City partied to a 4-0 victory over Mansfield and broke the third tier's points record in the process.
Keshi Anderson, Willum Willumsson, Kieran Dowell and Tomoki Iwata scored against Mansfield as Blues ended their league season at St Andrew's without tasting defeat. The last time that happened was in 1971/72.
This has been the season for breaking records and Blues' total of 105 points is the best-ever in League One. Chris Davies' side need two more points from their final two matches for the highest total in EFL history.
With a record of two victories in their previous 21 matches, Mansfield were always going to be unlikely party-poopers, but they had two chances to score inside 15 minutes.
Ryan Allsop tipped Jordan Bowery's powerful shot over the crossbar after an untimely slip from Alex Cochrane presented the ex-Aston Villa man with the chance.
From the resulting corner, Adedeji Oshilaja somehow headed wide of the target from six yards after meeting the ball unchallenged.
