230,000 food parcels handed out in one year

ALMOST 230,000 emergency food parcels were given to those facing hunger and hardship in the West Midlands in 2025, it has emerged.

Trussell’s community of food banks in the West Midlands delivered the equivalent of 628 parcels a day, which is a parcel every two-and-a-half minutes, to those in need.

According to the charity, the number of emergency food parcels provided in the West Midlands last year was 41% higher than before the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

The charity says West Midlands residents are feeling “overlooked and left behind” as income from work and social security fails to cover the cost of food, utility bills and other essential daily items.
