£800m 'to help get us out of slow lane'
Bath Chronicle
|June 05, 2025
Parts of Somerset will benefit from an £800 million boost to the region's transport network, the Government has announced.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced a £15.6 billion package of investment in public transport.
The West of England will receive an £800m share, including £200 million to develop mass transit links between Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
Helen Godwin, the new Mayor of the West of England Combined Authority (Weca), said: "Our region has a strong economy overall, but we know that congestion has held the West of England back from achieving its full potential.
"We've been stuck in the slow lane on transport for too long. Our potential additional contribution to the national economy is enormous. It's time to invest in the West and unlock that growth.
