Vigil held for victims of rocket attack

»Locals in Si Sa Ket province’s Kantharalak district yesterday held a vigil to remember those who perished in a Cambodian rocket attack at a petrol station on July 24.

The vigil was held a day after some 150 international journalists and military attachés from 23 countries surveyed the area. Eight people, including an 8-year-old boy, were killed as a rocket fell on a 7-Eleven convenience store inside the station, during the latest Thai-Cambodian border conflict.

The vigil was held in accordance with Isan beliefs, with elders tying white-cotton bracelets on the wrists of the young while giving them blessings. “After the bad events, may there be positive events from now on,’ one elder said. Residents and local officials who attended the vigil also placed bouquets of flowers at the petrol station.
