Job termination deemed 'illegal'
The termination of Paul Chambers' work contract by Naresuan University is unlawful, says Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR).
The American scholar was recently embroiled in a lese majeste case but the charges against him have since been dropped.
Panu Bhuddhawong, vice rector of administration who acts in the rector's stead, signed the decision to terminate Dr Chambers' employment two times in late April.
The job termination took effect on April 9, the day Dr Chambers' visa was revoked, and a day after the scholar met prosecutors in Phitsanulok to acknowledge the charges.
The job termination came ahead of prosecutors deciding not to pursue the charges against him in early May.
