Thailand ‘used as heroin transit point’ in flight attendant case

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) revealed that the heroin found in the luggage of a Thai Airways flight attendant arrested in Australia originated outside Thailand before being smuggled into the country, repackaged and handed to her for onward transport.

ONCB spokeswoman Areepak Ngernbumrung said yesterday investigators had already established that the heroin had originated abroad before entering Thailand.

“Because heroin is not produced domestically, traffickers routinely use Thailand as a transit and repackaging point before sending shipments overseas,” Ms Areepak said, adding that officials were tracing the route used by the network.
