Shrimp exports forecast to claw back next year

Thai shrimp exports are projected to rebound in 2026 to tally 400,000 tonnes, driven by US tariffs that have weakened competitors.

- PHUSADEE ARUNMAS

Ekapoj Yodpinit, president of the Thai Shrimp Association, said the US imposed a 19% tariff on Thai shrimp, similar to the level for key rivals such as Vietnam at 20% and Indonesia at 19%, allowing Thailand to maintain its competitiveness in the US market.

India, which holds a US market share of more than 30%, or roughly 300,000 tonnes, now faces anti-dumping and countervailing duties averaging more than 60% in total. This could undermine India’s competitiveness, potentially allowing Thailand to fill the supply gap if it can ramp up production, he said.

Thailand currently produces about 270,000 tonnes of shrimp a year.
