Parties must notify EC of campaign policies early

The Election Commission (EC) has asked that parties officially report their policies, especially populist measures, announced during the campaign, at least 20 days before election day.

The EC wants parties to submit details, especially for policies requiring large expenditure, so the agency can examine them in advance, the Royal Gazette reported yesterday. The announcement was signed by EC Chairman Narong Klanwarin on Tuesday.

Under the new rules, parties must take into account the views of their local branches and provincial party representatives when drafting policies.
