MRTA fast-tracks major metro projects

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) is accelerating major metro projects and preparing new feasibility reviews for two additional lines recently transferred from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).
MRTA governor Gardphajon Udomdhammabhakdi said civil works on the Orange Line (East) from Thailand Cultural Centre to Min Buri have been fully completed.
The 22.5-kilometre line, with 17 stations, has reached 38% completion of system installation.
The agency aims to open the line by late 2027, ahead of concessionaire Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc's (BEM) original January 2028 target.
Work on the Southern Purple Line (Tao Poon-Rat Burana) is 68% complete, with opening planned for 2029.
