Leader Lam set for new term soon

Delegates of Vietnam's Communist Party began voting yesterday in a process that will culminate in the selection of its general secretary, officials and state media said, after the party shortened its congress in a sign of broad consensus over the reappointment of current leader To Lam.

The congress of the ruling party, held once every five years to choose leaders and set political and economic priorities, had initially been scheduled to run until Sunday. Delegates voted on Wednesday, however, to conclude the meeting as early as today, the government said on its news portal.
