Disinformation 'distracting voters'

As campaigning intensifies ahead of the February general election, allegations of organised misinformation and political smearing have taken centre stage, with the People's Party (PP) and Pheu Thai warning that distorted narratives and selective attacks risk distracting voters from substantive policy debate.

On the campaign trail in Sai Mai district yesterday, PP list candidate Rukchanok Srinork said the party had faced an escalation of hostile questioning, much of it centred on claims that its MPs worked solely to amend Section 112 or diminish the role of the military.

She said these narratives were manufactured and detached from the party's legislative record while stating that a deliberate campaign was shaping public misunderstanding.

Ms Rukchanok said the issue had rarely been raised by the party itself, but was instead repeatedly attached to it by critics.
