Gold scales new heights amid safe-haven buying

Gold prices hit record highs last week, buoyed by expectations of more US interest rate cuts and geopolitical tensions that fuelled safe-haven demand.

The afternoon fixing on Wednesday in London (the market was closed on Thursday and Friday) was $4,480.80 an ounce, compared with $4,337.60 a week earlier. Thai selling prices were quoted at 66,500 baht per baht-weight (15.2 grammes), up 2,000 baht from the previous week.
Spot gold peaked on Friday at $4,549.71, while US gold futures for February delivery settled 1.1% higher at $4,552.70.
