'Critical targets' hit in Russian bombing

Russia launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile known as Oreshnik in a widespread air attack on Ukraine that targeted energy infrastructure and damaged apartment buildings.

The Russian Defence Ministry said it launched "a massive strike with high-precision, long-range, landand sea-based weapons, including the Oreshnik", against critical targets, according to a statement on Telegram Friday.

Ukraine's military confirmed in a statement on Facebook that Russia launched an attack on infrastructure in the western city of Lviv using a ballistic missile, but said the exact type would be specified after components were examined.

"Such a strike close to EU and NATO border is a grave threat to the security on the European continent and a test for the transatlantic community," Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on X. "This is truly a global threat. And it demands global responses."

Overall, Russia launched 242 drones, 13 ballistic missiles, 22 cruise missile and one intermediate-range ballistic missile from the Kapustin Yar site, Ukraine's Air Defence said, with Kyiv and the region surrounding the capital as the primary targets.
