Appeal for full charter redo wanes

Three conservative parties yesterday reiterated their opposition to drafting an entirely new constitution, arguing that the move would be costly, unnecessary and potentially destabilising.

Key members of the Rak Chart Thai Party, Thai Phakdee Party, and the Thai United Nation Party (UTN) all said they would not support any move to scrap the 2017 charter.

In Nakhon Ratchasima, Jade Donavanik, a prime ministerial candidate of the Rak Chart Party, said drafting a new charter would cost billions of baht, even if the referendum were held alongside the election.

Rewriting specific problematic sections would be more cost-effective and would free up funds to address livelihoods and economic hardship, he said.
