Al revs up green transformation

As governments and suppliers worldwide become more climate-conscious, Thai companies use technology to embrace sustainability, writes Suchit Leesa-nguansuk

Al revs up green transformation

Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a strategic tool for organisations to navigate the green transformation journey, according to sustainability consultants.

AI can help organisations streamline carbon footprint tracking and simplify carbon credit management, empowering businesses to align with evolving international and local regulatory frameworks without added complexity, said the consultants.

Beyond compliance, AI-driven sustainability tools help brand exporters differentiate themselves in an increasingly climate-conscious market.

This is especially relevant for exporters targeting high-value European segments, where environmental credentials can directly influence purchasing decisions and product appeal amid challenges posed by the US reciprocal tariff policy.

From operational efficiency to long-term brand elevation, AI is no longer just a support tool, but also a catalyst for building climate-resilient business models.

PRESSURE POINTS

Speaking at a seminar titled “AI Beyond Earth: Artificial Intelligence and the Mission to Build a Sustainable World”, held recently by the Electronic Transactions Development Agency, Poonperm Vardhanabindu, chief technical officer at Azolla Climate Co, a sustainability service provider, said there are multiple factors driving Thailand's green transition.

The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and similar mechanisms used in Japan, South Korea and Australia represents a second-tier pressure point for exporters.

He said Thailand's proposed Climate Change Act is also driving this shift, as well as the carbon trading mechanism projected to be implemented by 2031.

Mr Poonperm said the pressure is not just coming from regulators, but also directly from global supply chains.

Tech giants such as Apple and Microsoft have declared carbon neutrality goals and are pushing suppliers worldwide to comply.
