Abbot resigns amid donation probe

Officials investigate temple’s finances

Phra Alongkot Tikkapanyo, widely known as Luang Pho Alongkot, announced his resignation yesterday as abbot of Wat Phrabat Namphu in Lopburi, amid intensifying scrutiny over the temple's internal affairs and finances.

His resignation followed several postponed press briefings that had fuelled speculation about his future.

Media crews that had gathered at the temple on Sunday in anticipation of a statement were told by the temple's treasurer that the briefing was delayed because a newly appointed legal team was still collecting evidence and awaiting clarification from relevant agencies.

Luang Pho Alongkot had led the temple, which provides care for HIV patients and the underprivileged, for decades. His departure comes as questions mount over the temple's management and the role of foundations linked to it.
