SHOTS' BOSS WIDDRINGTON ON WINNING FA TROPHY AT WEMBLEY

- By MICHAEL REEVES

MANAGER Tommy Widdrington said that guiding Aldershot Town to glory in the FA Trophy is what "dreams are made of".

The Shots made history on Sunday when 18,000 fans headed to Wembley Stadium for the first time and witnessed their heroes secure a 3-0 win over Spennymoor Town.

And the former Southampton midfielder, who overcame a double stroke in November to lead the Shots to glory, was absolutely delighted to deliver this success.

"As a young lad, growing up on a council estate in Newcastle, I dreamt of getting to Wembley," Widdrington told the post-match press conference. "I came when I was a schoolboy to come and watch Peter Beardsley play for England, he was my hero.

"I was lucky enough to make my debut [for Southampton] in the First Division against him I have been really fortunate.

"As [the then Saints manager] Alan Ball said to me, when he was my manager - the best man manager I have ever had - he said I don't believe in luck Tom, but I believe you need it, you do.
