WORK is set to take place to clear streets in Rushmoor and Surrey Heath of discarded chewing gum and to reduce gum littering thanks to a grant from the Chewing Gum Task Force, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Following a successful campaign in Aldershot town centre last year, Rushmoor Borough Council is putting plans in place this summer to remove chewing gum blighting streets in Farnborough town centre after receiving a grant of £17,300 to tackle the issue.

In Surrey Heath, a grant of just over £26,000 has been awarded to Joint Waste Solutions (JWS) and plans are being put in place to clean Park Street, in Camberley, later this summer. The project will provide a boost for residents and local businesses, with signage installed straight after the clean-up designed to keep the streets gum-free for as long as possible afterwards.

Last year in the borough, areas including Frimley High Street, Bagshot High Street, Heatherside Arcade and Dean Parade were cleaned as part of the first Chewing Gum Taskforce grant awarded to JWS.
