Airdrie showing the passion to stay up

Craig Watson says angry words exchanged at half-time in a 'meaningless' game show how much passion Airdrie have to stay in the Championship.

Trailing to a Ben Dempsey goal just before half-time, Airdrie ultimately succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Ayr United in their league finale on Friday night, a game that had nothing riding on it at all.

Frankly, it would have been stupid for the Diamonds to go hell for leather against Scott Brown's side, given that they have a relegation play-off semi-final to play against Stenhousemuir over two legs this week.

But stand-in skipper Watson says their reaction to going a goal down shows how much they want to succeed.

The defender said: "I'm ultimately disappointed with the result, but there were phases in that game, we're pleased with how we got in behind and worked our way in the first half.

"We were so disappointed with how they got their goal, it was so soft.
