High court terms remission granted to convict as illegal

Justice HD Suthar of the Gujarat High Court on Friday termed the remission granted to Aniruddhsinh Jadeja as illegal. Jadeja, a prominent political figure, was sentenced to life imprisonment under TADA by the Supreme Court for the 1988 assassination of sitting Congress MLA Popat Sorathiya. The HC also ordered him to surrender to the jail authority within four weeks.

As per the HC order, the remission granted by the then ADGP TS Bisht (now retired) in 2018 was without authority, does not have any force of law and is a nullity. The order said that the premature release of Aniruddhsinh Mahipatsinh Jadeja is illegal and without any authority of law.
