Cops crack case of headless body

The city woke up to horror when a severed head turned up in a garbage heap near Vijaynagar Lake in the Laskana area on September 11. Days later, police found the victim's torso in a rented room barely 500 metres away, unravelling one of Surat's most chilling murder cases in recent memory.

The deceased was identified as Dinesh Mahanto, a craftsman who had lived in Laskana for four months. He was a father of three, with his family back in Bihar.
