Hard to believe it’s been a year since election
Accrington Observer
|July 11, 2025
IT’S hard to believe it’s already been a year since I was elected to serve Hyndburn and Haslingden as your MP. In the last year we've delivered real change.
-
Some of the changes I know are making a real difference here include a pay rise for workers on the minimum wage, stopping no fault evictions for renters, banning bonuses for the bosses of united utilities and providing four million extra NHS appointments.
Everything I do in Parliament is about delivering your priorities and amplifying your voices. One issue I've pushed hard on is fairer parental leave for dads.
Too many have told me they felt forced back to work too soon, missing out on precious time with their newborns.
After raising this in Parliament and speaking with families across the borough, I’m pleased the Government has agreed to review the parental leave system.
‘That review must now deliver real change - because every child deserves those early weeks with both parents.
