Courts building set to become cafe and flats

A DILAPIDATED heritage-listed town centre building which once housed law courts and a police station is set to become offices, a cafe and 25 flats in a £2million plus redevelopment.
Hyndburn Council planning committee has been urged to approve the scheme for the former Accrington Magistrates' Court and Police Station, in Spring Gardens off Manchester Road.
An officer's report to the meeting last Wednesday recommended approval for Ibrahim Janneh’s revamp of the Grade II-listed building as a business, social and residential hub 24 conditions.
The building is next door to the also Grade II listed former fire station which has recently been converted into offices, a warehouse and shop with a modern rooftop extension.
The planning officers report tells councillors: "The former civic complex is an important landmark on the Manchester Road gateway into Accrington Town Centre.
