Spitfires land late blow on Alty

SCOTT Quigley scored Eastleigh’s first goal and laid on Paul McCallum’s late second half winner as Eastleigh shattered Altrincham’s proud ten-match unbeaten National League run which stretched back to early September.

McCallum’s winning goal came five minutes from the end of normal time and was against the run of play – Altrincham pulling the strings before and after Chris Conn-Clarke’s 64th minute penalty equaliser, without applying the killer blow.

“The result was a tough one to take,” a disappointed Robins boss Phil Parkinson reflected: “The players gave everything. We played some really good stuff and had to chances to win it, but some days it doesn’t go for you.

“Eastleigh is a notoriously difficult place to come and we don’t have a good record here, but they called upon their experience when they were under the cosh.”
