LEAGUE Two Bradford City took the honours in this pre-season friendly but Bury FC supporters were in great heart having seen their team return to Gigg Lane for the first time in four years.
It was a special day for the Shakers and proud boss Andy Welsh was full of praise for everyone associated with the club.
“Today isn’t about the result, it’s a celebration for the town and the supporters that have waited for over 1,500 days for their team to come home,” he said.
“Four years ago, when we started as a phoenix club at Daisy Hill, I said that it was our dream to bring the club back to Gigg Lane and today we have achieved it.”
Mark Hughes’ visitors took control early on with a goal from Alex Pattison.
