GATESHEAD romped to a comfortable victory over a Maiden head side that ended the season winless in seven but avoided the drop by two points following Torquay’s draw with champions Wrexham.
The Tynesiders have been one of the form sides in 2023 and they were far too good here for the Magpies, who have struggled on the road all season.
Maidenhead manager Alan Devonshire admitted: “It was men against boys and we have limped over the line, but I’m happy with that.
“I was really disappointed with the way we played, but I had half my team out injured and knew it would be a difficult game against a good side that is in form.”
Maidenhead had a great chance to settle the nerves when Emile Acquah broke free but fired over.
