PROUD Gary Johnson hailed the contribution of Torquay's player of the year Aaron Jarvis after his hat-trick propelled the Gulls to a fifth successive win to boost their chances of beating the drop.

JARVIS TOPS AS INSPIRED GULLS LAND A FAB FIVE!

Jarvis, who was presented with the prize before kick-off, netted twice in the first half before Lennell John-Lewis pulled one back for the Minstermen.

Jarvis then completed his treble from the penalty spot but a late Adam Crooks effort set up a nervy finish to a game which saw York reduced to ten men when Mitch Hancox saw red after the final whistle.

"When you get player of the year, you have got to prove it to the ones who didn't vote for you that it was the right decision and he (Jarvis) did and he was fantastic," said Johnson.

"We had a striker in great form in Jarvs and we had a goalkeeper and defence who were determined not to let the ball in at the other end, however we did concede two."
