In recent years, initiatives such as rural homestays, adventure activities or sacred hotspots have been revamped to widen the tourism prospects of the state
-
The Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, known for its spiritual splendour and heritage-rich destinations, is strongly backed by tourism, dubbed the backbone of its economy. Recognising the state’s tourism potential, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj reiterated, “Tourism is our bread and butter, and pilgrimage is our driving force, offering employment opportunities to our population.”
One of the major tourist pullers in the state is the Char Dham Yatra, drawing about 50 lakh pilgrims. “No other place attracts this many tourists,” said Maharaj.
From Mahabharat Circuit to stargazing hotspots, many new projects are underway to boost the state’s tourism sector. The state government has undertaken these initiatives to strengthen its economic and cultural viability.
