Young Australian and NZ singers take centre stage.
RICHARD BETTS
Across the choral sea

Legend - and the New Zealand Choral Federation - has it that there are more choir singers than rugby players in Aotearoa. But just as there are rugby players and there are rugby players, there are choristers and there are choristers. The New Zealand Youth Choir (NZYC) is composed of choristers. In a sort of musical, noncontact Bledisloe Cup, our top youth choir shares the stage with its Australian equivalent, Gondwana Chorale, in Auckland on September 30.

It's a rare pairing. The last time NZYC director David Squire can remember the two singing together in Aotearoa was 2011.
