At the time of Lynott’s death in 1986, scurrilous press coverage focused on the addictions which ended his life, but the intervening decades have seen Lynott, and Lizzy’s legacy, praised by admirers from Van Morrison to Metallica. A new 2DVD/CD set, Phil Lynott: Songs For While I’m Away + Thin Lizzy: The Boys Are Back In Town Live At The Sydney Opera House October 1978, compounds the effect, with a nuanced documentary portrait of Lynott, and newly restored footage of a scorching Gary Moore-era live set. “It’s something I’m really proud of,” admits Gorham. 

The Sydney Opera House concert has been released before with frustratingly poor sound. Rumours of better-quality footage, and attempts to track it down, have circulated among fans for years.
