Melancholia is the keyboard virtuoso's first-ever LP of self-composed instrumentals.

Rick Wakeman has been telling Prog about Melancholia, his first-ever set of self-penned solo piano pieces, which is out on October 17 via Madfish.

The pieces are the result of his daily dalliances on the ivories and the moods they can often express. “I sit at the piano every day,” he says, “and sometimes things are happening which affect the way I play. Melancholy is an emotion, and not necessarily a bad one. We all have melancholic moments, and more often than not those are when you're on your own, perhaps just sitting with your own thoughts.”

MARTIN BARRE

Every month we get inside the mind of one of the biggest names in music. This issue it's Martin Barre. From the shy kid who learned music to avoid having to ask girls to dance, he conquered the world with Jethro Tull, a band that sold out the Los Angeles Forum five nights in a row in 1975, shifting some 100,000 tickets in the process.
