When Anna Nicole Smith met her future husband, J.
Howard Marshall, she was 26 and he was an 89-year-old billionaire who'd made his fortune in the oil industry. She was working at a strip club in Texas.
She caught the elderly businessman's eye and he invited her out for lunch. In 1994, Anna Nicole became Mrs. J. Howard Marshall.
"I know people think I married Howard for his money. But it's not true. I love him," she said after their wedding at a drive-in wedding chapel where she wore a 22-carat diamond ring, reportedly worth $162,000.
The marriage was short-lived, with Marshall passing away the following year, and the Playboy magazine model was determined to secure her financial future.
But one of her husband's sons, Pierce Marshall, was just as determined that his stepmother wouldn't cash in. He was the main beneficiary of the $2.4 billion estate.
