The vibrant shores of Goa have long been a melting pot of diverse cultures, and in January 2025, the coastal state once again witnessed the grand spectacle that seamlessly blends tradition with contemporary vibrancy: the 24th edition of Lokotsav Goa. Hosted annually by the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa, in collaboration with the West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur, Kala Academy, and the Corporation of the City of Panaji, Lokotsav 2025 became a platform for the celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage.

Held at the picturesque Darya Sangam, Kala Academy, from January 17th to 26th, this festival was a resplendent affair that captivated not only the hearts of locals but also those of cultural connoisseurs and tourists from around the globe.

A Cultural Melange Unveiled

Lokotsav Goa is no ordinary folk festival—is a cultural extravaganza that celebrates the myriad traditions, crafts, music, and dance forms from across the country. This year’s festival, which spanned a dazzling ten days, brought together 600 folk artists and more than 1000 craftspeople from 20 Indian states, creating an unparalleled sensory experience.

The evening air at Darya Sangam echoed with the enchanting sounds of classical folk music and rhythmic beats of dance ensembles, as regional artists performed age-old dances like Bhawai from Gujarat, Garba from Rajasthan, and the mesmerizing Thangtu of Manipur. Notably, Goan dances such as the joyous Dekhni and the soulful Mando blended seamlessly with these pan-Indian performances, reminding us of the importance of maintaining regional identities amidst the tide of globalization.
