A MYSTERIOUS woman has been discovered A under underneath Picasso's Portrait of Mateu Fernández de Soto (1901).

The painting features in the exhibition 'Goya to Impressionism. Masterpieces from the Oskar Reinhart Collection', which opened last week at The Courtauld, London WC2 (Arts & antiques, February 12), and was created just as Picasso was entering his famous Blue Period. The lady underneath, with her curved shoulders, fashionable chignon and possible resemblance to the subjects of Absinthe Drinker and Woman With Cross
