THE LATEST TUMI ALPHA COLLECTION FEATURES SIX NEW SILHOUETTES THAT CAN TACKLE ANYTHING THE WORLD THROWS AT YOU.
FORTY-THREE YEARS.
That's when Tumi came up with an innovation that revolutionised travel—and one that continues being its calling card. The brand pioneered the use of ballistic nylon, a material originally developed for military flak jackets, for travel cases in 1983. Commercial travel was still in its infancy back then and luggage was either crafted from moulded plastic and vulcanised fibre or soft leather. Both had drawbacks, and ballistic nylon instantly solved those problems—the durability of hard-sided luggage with the lightness of leather.
Within a decade, Tumi had established itself as the luggage brand for busy professionals and in 2008, this ethos was formalised when the brand officially launched the first Alpha collection.
Close to two decades later, the collection has broadened. Beyond travel, Tumi's offerings have woven themselves into the lives of busy professionals shuttling from the office to social obligations, a critical component of the city’s daily heartbeat. But its core ethos remains the same: form must always follow function.
Tumi has unveiled the latest evolution of its Alpha collection, and its blueprint for the modern movement. For the man who is always on the move, the new Alpha range represents the next generation of performance luxury essentials.
Global creative director Victor Sanz calls it “design intelligence”. There certainly is a lot of thought placed in the Alpha range. Naturally, Tumi's signature FXT ballistic nylon anchors it. It's light, incredibly secure, and complements anything you're wearing, whether you're in a suit or sweatshirt.
