Silver ETFs Rally: Can the Shine Last for Retail Investors?

Silver has been one of the strongest performing assets of 2025.
Silver exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have climbed nearly 46.9 per cent year-to-date in the Indian market. After such a sharp upsurge, investors are now questioning whether the momentum can sustain or whether a period of consolidation lies ahead.
Industrial and investment demand
Silver's strength has come from a powerful mix of industrial and safe-haven investment demand. The metal is a critical input in green technologies such as solar panels, electric vehicles, and semiconductors, with demand from electronics and renewable energy continuing to expand.
Global prices have also been buoyed by a softer US dollar (dollar index is down about 10 per cent year-to-date). Domestic prices in India were further lifted by the rupee's weakness against the dollar. Retail investors in India have stepped up allocations to silver ETFs, and even central banks have begun adding silver to their reserves.
